Job summary

VINCI Construction Grands Projets Canada is seeking a seasoned Superintendent to lead on-site coordination for a major Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment project in Canada. You will oversee construction activities, enforce safety protocols, and coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders to meet milestones.

The role requires 10–15 years of superintendent experience, earthworks, and utility relocation know-how, with deep knowledge of civil construction methods

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
  • 10–15 years of experience as a Superintendent, preferably on Ontario Power Generation sites.
  • Experience with earthworks and utility relocation.
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, codes, and regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with stakeholders and subcontractors.
  • Proficient in construction management software and scheduling tools.
  • Annual gross compensation CAD 170K–CAD 210K, plus vehicle and gas card.

VINCI Construction Grands Projets Canada, a subsidiary of VINCI Construction Grands Projets, part of the VINCI Group, construction worldwide leader, specialized in the design and construction of major civil engineering and building works in Canada is hiring a Superintendent.

What is the project?

The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:

  • 1.5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized 10.5 m diameter slurry TBM
  • Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore)
  • An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed

The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.

What You Will Do

The Superintendent will provide on-site coordination of all construction activities while ensuring the proper implementation of safety protocols. They will collaborate with stakeholders across the project to ensure key milestones are met and maintain accurate records of construction activities and costs.

Concretely, Your Tasks Will Be
  • Supervise subcontractor teams within the area of control
  • Ensure that HSE is always guaranteed by enforcing a safe work environment, implementing and monitoring safety protocols, and conducting regular safety inspections to prevent accidents and mitigate risks
  • Manage and coordinate all construction activities on the project, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable regulations
  • Monitor the quality of work performed on-site to ensure adherence to industry standards, project requirements, and best practices
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders to develop and implement construction schedules, work plans, and resource allocation to meet project milestones and objectives
  • Identify and address any issues or obstacles that may arise during the construction process, employing effective problem‑solving skills to maintain project progress and minimize delays
  • Maintain accurate records of construction activities, including daily reports, progress updates, and any changes or deviations from the original plans. Provide regular reports to project management and stakeholders
  • Monitor project costs, including labor, materials, and equipment, and assist in managing the project budget, seeking cost‑effective solutions without compromising quality and safety standards
  • Review construction documentation (including the Safe Work Plan, JHA, Safety Plan)
  • Coordinate activities required for site possession, including documentation and OPG’s permits
  • A degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred
  • A proven track record of at least 10-15 years as a Superintendent, preferably on Ontario Power Generation sites
  • Experience with earthworks, and utility relocation
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, codes, and regulations
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to motivate and guide a diverse workforce
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to liaise with team members, stakeholders, and subcontractors
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to address construction challenges and provide practical solutions
  • In-depth knowledge of construction safety practices and regulations, with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced construction environment
  • Proficient in using construction management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Annual gross compensation ranging from CAD 170K to CAD 210K, depending on experience and profile
