Job summary

Gibraltar Mine is seeking a Superintendent, Environment to lead site-wide environmental management, monitoring, and regulatory compliance programs. You will ensure environmental obligations are met while driving operational excellence and proactive stewardship.

The role oversees environmental monitoring, regulatory reporting, audits, and permitting support, providing leadership to a multidisciplinary team and engaging with regulators to maintain the site’s strong environmental performance record.

Qualifications

• Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
• Professional designation (P.Eng., P.Geo., RPBio, or equivalent) preferred.
• 8–10 years of progressive environmental experience, preferably in mining or heavy industry.
• Strong working knowledge of BC mining and environmental legislation.
• Proven experience managing regulatory reporting and environmental teams.

Responsibilities

• Act as a visible safety and environmental leader across the site.
• Ensure compliance with all environmental permits, approvals, and regulatory requirements (provincial and federal).
• Oversee surface water, groundwater, hydrometric, ML/ARD, air quality, reclamation, and environmental monitoring programs.
• Lead preparation and review of annual, quarterly, and monthly environmental reports.
• Maintain and continuously improve the Environmental Management System (EMS).
• Lead regulatory inspections, audits, and agency engagement activities.
• Manage environmental data systems and ensure data quality and traceability.
• Support environmental aspects of mine planning, capital projects, and operational changes.
• Lead, mentor, and develop environmental coordinators, technicians, and contractors.

Role Overview

This role is responsible for ensuring that environmental obligations are met while supporting operational excellence and proactive environmental stewardship.

The Superintendent will oversee environmental monitoring programs, regulatory reporting, audits, and permitting support, while providing leadership to a multidisciplinary environmental team. This position plays a key role in regulator engagement and maintaining Gibraltar's strong environmental performance record.
