Qualifications

  • Five or more years’ experience in traffic signal field, construction and maintenance.
  • Leadership provided in the construction of traffic signal intersections in Canada.
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License with Q endorsement is required.

Job description

The Electrical Superintendent is located in Edmonton, AB and typically reports directly to the Site Supervisor. Their primary focus, in the electrical discipline is to supervise and lead a Traffic Signal team in the construction and maintenance activities along the West Valley Line Corridor. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Full understanding of the Construction Project Scope safety and environmental requirements.
  • Leads crews in such things as, HSE, Safety toolbox, tail board meetings, mentoring and training.
  • Plans, schedules and Leads Construction and Maintenance Crews with daily tasks working safely and meeting productivity in the field.
  • Reads and interprets traffic designs, electrical, construction drawings / plans, packages, and associated project documents.
  • Provides leadership / direction for activities such a planning, organizing, installing, and commissioning of on site.
  • Responsible for installation of traffic signals; conduits, raceways, steel structures, cabling, LED traffic signals, hardware, road loops, video detection, communications, pre-emption, and NEMA Traffic Controls standard TS2 Type 1.
  • Assists with streetlight installations and repairs.
  • Maintains records of all maintenance activities in accordance with contractual requirements
  • Assist in other related duties as required, including scheduling, logistics, quality performance monitoring, etc.
  • Must have the ability to work independently on traffic signals and streetlighting at times and available for on call.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Journeyman Construction Electrician
  • Five or more years’ experience in traffic signal field experience, directly in construction and maintenance, as an electrical team lead.
  • Must have been directly involved and or provided leadership in the construction of traffic signal intersections in Canada.
  • IMSA Certification Level 2 - minimum
  • LRT signalling and power traction is an asset
  • Master Electrician certificate is an asset

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Communicates effectively with co-workers, project team, clients, and stakeholders
  • In-depth knowledge of NEMA TS2 Type 1 Traffic Controllers such as Econolite and Tacel
  • Experienced with installation and maintenance of traffic signals, road loops, loop detection, video detection, infrared detection, accessible pedestrian signals, emergency and rail pre-emption.
  • Effectively leads team in safe completion of assigned projects. Ability to plan, schedule and manage multiple projects simultaneously while completing tasks on time and within budget.
  • Experience working in aerial bucket and operate at heights ranging from 3-15 meters in compliance with equipment safety standards.
  • Ability to comply with the company standard practice as it applies to field assignments.
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License with Q endorsement, class 3 would be an asset
  • CSTS
  • Valid Fall Protection Ticket
