Job summary

Aecon Utilities in Ontario is seeking a Superintendent to ensure project completion on schedule and within cost, while upholding safety and quality standards. You will manage day-to-day yard operations, coordinate administration, scheduling, and construction, and maintain strong client relations with owners and subcontractors.

The role requires five or more years in construction, utility contracting experience, and proficient MS Office skills.

Qualifications

  • Technical school background and at least five years of construction experience.
  • Experience in the Utility Contracting Industry.
  • Working computer proficiency with MS Office.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of construction techniques, practices, and fundamentals.
  • Experience with contract and subcontract management.
  • Ability to travel within Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule projects to be constructed in a timely, cost-effective manner.
  • Monitor overall progress and take corrective action as needed.
  • Coordinate Administration, Scheduling and Construction functions.
  • Represent the Company with the owner.
  • Advise owner of extra work and claims; inform subcontractors of back charges.
  • Keep contracts current and update with change orders.
  • Implement and monitor Safety, Environment Policies and QC Plans.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and company procedures.
  • Direct and maintain morale of project staff; collaborate across teams.
  • Support bid processes and related activities.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Superintendent is responsible to ensure that projects are completed on schedule in compliance with the contracts and the job cost estimates and all the work is completed safely to acceptable standards of quality and workmanship.The Superintendent is also responsible for the management of day to day operations in the yard.

What You'll Do Here:
  • Responsible for the overall planning and scheduling to ensure that projects are constructed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Monitors the overall progress of the projects and takes corrective action where necessary.
  • Coordinates and monitors the three main functions – Administration, Scheduling and Construction.
  • Represents the Company with the owner.
  • Ensure that the owner is being advised of all extra work and claims and that subcontractors are being advised of back charges.
  • Ensure that contracts are kept current and being updated with change orders on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for implementing and monitoring of the Company’s Safety and Environment Policies and QC Plans.
  • Ensures that all functions and operations on the job are following local legislative requirements.
  • Directs and maintains discipline and morale of the project staff.
  • Ensures that Company policies and project procedures are being adhered to.
  • Ensures compliance with union agreements, if applicable.
  • Reviews and provides approval of project cost reports and ensures projected job profits are accurate and current.
  • Assists in bid process.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Technical school background and at least five years of construction experience.
  • Experience in the Utility Contracting Industry.
  • Working computer proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of construction techniques, practices, and fundamentals.
  • Experience with contract and subcontract management.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships and work within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management.
  • Ability to travel within Ontario as required.

Reason for Vacancy: Replacement

The expected pay range for this role is $90,000 - $110,000 per year

Individual pay isdeterminedbased on several factors, including work location, education, experience, uniqueskillsand job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
