Job description

Position Summary

Seabird Island is committed to fostering strong relationships with students. We are dedicated to creating a culturally safe and inclusive environment that respects and values Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and ways of being. We are seeking Post Secondary Summer Students to join our team in various departments supporting daily functions.

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Summer Students will provide assistance in daily tasks as needed while participating in the program. This is an exciting opportunity for post-secondary students to build leadership skills while making a meaningful impact in the community.

This is a 12-week term contract for post-secondary students looking for summer employment.

What you'll do

  1. Assist with day-to-day tasks and support various programs and services across the organization.
  2. Provide administrative support such as data entry, filing, organizing supplies, and helping prepare materials for events or programs.
  3. Support community events through set-up, coordination, and participation as needed.
  4. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in alignment with health and safety guidelines.
  5. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete assigned projects and contribute ideas.
  6. Demonstrate professionalism and a positive attitude while working with staff, community members, and guests.
  7. Engage in professional development opportunities and reflect on personal learning goals throughout the placement.

Other Duties

  • Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.

What you Bring

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in full-time Post Secondary School during 2024-2025 and returning full-time in September 2025.
  • Additional Certifications in related programs are an asset.
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Participants must be a minimum of 19 years old and have a SIN Number.
  • Must have a Bank account and a BC Services Card.

Working / Special Conditions

  • Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years.
  • Initial and ongoing commitment to the values and guidelines of Sq'éwqel (Seabird Island Band), including our policies, procedures, standards of practice, and laws, is essential. This commitment supports our collective work, the community, and the responsibilities of this role.
