This position requires an energetic student who would like to learn more about the community and working within a library. The position would be for a period of 8 weeks during our TD Summer Reading Program initiative. (July- August).
This is a great opportunity for students who would like experience in community engagement and who are creative, enthusiastic, and passionate about fostering the world of literacy.
TD Summer Reading Club (SRC) is Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for children of all ages, all interests, and all abilities.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Library Services Coordinator, you will be responsible for assisting in delivering an array of weekly programs that include tasks, but are not limited to:
• Collaborate with the Library Services Coordinator to plan, organize, and implement weekly programs aligned with the TD Summer Reading Club theme.
• Facilitate engaging story times, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) activities, outdoor/indoor activities and events tailored to children of various ages and abilities.
• Inspire a joy of reading and learning through dynamic, inclusive programming that supports literacy development and encourages participation in the TD Summer Reading Club.
• Assist with outreach efforts and community events that promote Leeds and the Thousand Islands Public Library’s summer programming and strengthen community connections.
• Assist in organizing, preparing and managing supplies and resources needed for program sessions; ensuring all materials are properly stored and inventoried.
• Provide friendly, welcoming, and informative support to children, caregivers, and community members attending programs and seeking information.
• Assist in gathering feedback, documenting participation, and reporting outcomes to support the assessment and enhancement of summer programming.
• Uphold Leeds and the Thousand Islands Public Library policies to ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for participants and staff.
• General clerical, circulation, and reference service tasks.
• Checking in and out library material for patrons.
• Assisting patrons in locating library material and placing holds.
• Registering patrons and maintaining patron records.
• Processing, organizing and shelving library material.
• Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
• Successful applicants 18 years of age and older are required to provide an acceptable Police Record Check.

Job Requirements

Working Conditions:
Salary: $18.88 per hour (plus 4% in lieu of vacation)
Status: Summer Student Temporary Contract
Duration: June 30-August 30, 2025
Expected hours: 30 per week (which include evenings and weekends)
Work Location: System-wide
Qualifications:
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience in, and comfortable with, working with groups of children of all ages.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a changing environment.
• Willingness to learn new skills on the job.
• Driver’s License would be ideal or the ability to transfer as needed between library branches during program delivery.
This position will be funded by a grant from Canada Summer Jobs. To meet the requirements of the CSJ grant, candidates must be:
• A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident
• Legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number)
• Between the age of 15-30 inclusively during the term of employment
• Registered as a high-school, college or university student, returning to school in September 2025.
