Prospect Human Services is dedicated to identifying situations where groups of individuals are facing challenges with full participation, and developing the services and supports necessary to break down those barriers. Our current portfolio provides support to both individuals and employers to fully integrate our community and our workforce. This role works with clients from a broad demographic including those facing barriers to employment.
In order to be eligible for this role, the government of AB requires the successful applicant to be under 30 years of age and a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident. You must reflect your eligibility for this role in your cover letter or on your resume.
What will you do?
Career Advising
- Acts as a resource to the Career Advisors and Employment Placement Specialists (EPS) to provide coaching for clients who demonstrate a need for career development, job target identification, and pre-employment skills
- Coordinates career coaching sessions (in collaboration with the Career Advisors) to identify gaps and create action plans
- As needed, delivers orientation to program services (i.e. workshops, essential skills services, other self-directed and directed services) and refers to other or complimentary services within Prospect
- Provides ongoing communication with internal staff in regards to status of clients and their service plans including revisions, updates, and completion
- Works with clients who require 1 to 1 assistance in job searching, career exploration and development of job search tools such as a resume and cover letter
Resource Coordination
- Continually conducts environmental scanning: labour market, corporations, news, and economic trends, incorporating findings and best practices into program/content
- Conducts regular research to become a subject matter expert
- Communicates current information to applicable team members on labour market and career development trends and best practices
Workshops
- Assists with developing content for group based workshops on pre-employment topics and adjusts and revises materials based on trends
- Assists in the facilitation of workshops
General
- Diligently works to ensure thorough understanding of all Prospect's programs
- Assists to maintain database of career development tools, websites, and related materials
- Complies with company policies/procedures, provincial, privacy and other job related legislation
- Champions Prospect’s goals, vision, mission and brand pillars
Specific Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required
- Currently enrolled in post-secondary education in career advising or other equivalent program
- Direct experience relating with a broad demographic including those facing barriers to employment
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and presentation software; advanced proficiency with internet, online, and social media platforms
- Exceptional oral communication, team work, and interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships, engage, counsel, motivate, coach, and collaborate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Knowledge of and experience using career exploration tools and websites
- Innovative with the ability to take initiative to become a subject matter expert in the career advising field
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills

- An equivalent of education and work experience will be considered
- This position is based out of our head office
- This position is an 8 week summer student position at 35 hours per week (M-F 7 hours / day)
