Assists the Truck and Coach Technicians with the maintenance of City vehicles such as adjusting, repairing, or replacing parts and other specialized automotive repair equipment.

Wage: $18.11 hourly (2025)

Reports To: Supervisor, Maintenance Fleet

Department: Public Works

Location: Fleet Services

Hours: Summer Full Time, 40 hours per week

Other: Some travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes may be necessary in accordance with job requirements.

The City of Kawartha Lakes is hiring summer students, and we're looking for innovative and passionate individuals interested in a four-month position from May to August. Our Summer Student Program introduces students to the public sector through challenging experiences, while providing meaningful opportunities to contribute to the community.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Minimum of age 16
  2. Registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year, 2024 to 2025
  3. Registered as a full-time student with the intent to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year, 2025 to 2026

Job Description:

  1. Assist with the routine maintenance on fleet vehicles, including small equipment
  2. Diagnose and repair issues upon notification

Qualifications:

  1. Hands-on experience, such as an internship or entry-level job in the industry preferred
  2. The ability to perform basic physical tasks, such as lifting and carrying heavy objects
  3. A strong mechanical aptitude and an eye for detail
  4. Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G2” Driver’s Licence or higher
  5. Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check will be required.
