Job description

There is one Summer Student Family Worker Child and Parent Place position available starting on July 02 2025 and ending on August 27 2025. working 35 hours per week.

Your Role :

To assist the Family Worker and Supervisor supporting separated or divorced families with several barriers including domestic violence mental health diagnosis addictions extended absence from child(ren) or lack of parenting skills. Instrumental from the intake process to facilitating and supervision of families. The worker will directly facilitate safe visits and exchanges. Students will gain experience as a support worker to high conflict families file management and to assist supervisor on special projects. This position will include work both in the office and direct support at one of the three access sites in Cambridge Guelph or Kitchener.

Tasks : Program Operations :

  • Assists in coordination and directly supervises the visits and exchanges during the Centres operating hours observing monitoring and facilitating high conflict families.
  • Sets up and disassembles equipment each day ensuring the facilities and materials meet the clients needs.
  • Meets with Supervisor to review the weekend schedule of family visits and exchanges.
  • Addresses telephone inquiries schedules and conducts family intakes.
  • Records maintains updates and files documentation on clients visits and exchanges and records monthly statistics as required in the SAID database.
  • Acts as a resource for families and refers them to other resources within the community.

Your Talents and Experience :

Education requirements : Student in a community college or university program seeking summer employment. A student of the social service program would be considered an asset. Committed to developing skills to work with high-risk children and youth. Ability to engage children / youth and parents with warmth and understanding in a non-judgmental strength-based approach. Preference will be given to those with experience of working with children and families. Must have access to transportation.

  • To be eligible youth must :
  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.

must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
