About Us

At the Safety Branch of the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration, we are responsible for delivering effective and efficient regulatory management for the protection of the public and workers’ safety through education, outreach, inspection and enforcement, equipment registration, permits, and licenses. Our staff of over 115 employees, located throughout Nova Scotia, do this by using the Pathways to Compliance to enhance compliance of provincially regulated employees, employers and contractors through setting, promoting, verifying and enforcing requirements under various pieces of legislation.

About Our Opportunity

The student will provide assistance in helping maintain and manage the data entered into the branch database management system that protect and organize key information. You will be required to have an understanding of the IT field and have a strong background in research. Microsoft Office Suite including Excel is necessary. Having experience using Cognos, Tableau, SQL and/or Microsoft Power Automate would be considered an asset.

The student will be working with other team members to provide support to branch staff. He/she must work independently in a fast based environment and to be able to communicate effectively both verbally and written with others.

The successful student may be assisting inspection personnel with locating records within the database and creating How To documentation to assist the Division with the work activities and cleanup of data. Other work may include learning the process of the surplus system procedures, working with person(s) to guide them through processes.

Qualifications And Experience

Students must have completed 1 year in a recognized Information Technology course, particularly database Administration concentration. Students must be registered for school in the Fall of 2025

This is a Casual employment opportunity with an anticipated start date of August 18, 2025, and end date of August 29, 2025.

Pay Grade: HOURLY

Salary Range: $15.73 - $29.69 Hourly
