This position will be working with the inpatient Therapeutic Recreation Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate summer recreation programs with input from Therapeutic Recreation Specialists
  • Maintains flexible hours including weekends and statutory holidays

  • Contributes to departmental planning meetings.

  • Follows hospital philosophy regarding Client and Family Centred Care.

  • Possess knowledge of Holland Bloorview’s client-based services, programs, policies and procedures

  • Ensures the maintenance of the Standards of Practice for Therapeutic Recreation

  • Identifies learning needs and provides opportunity to reach goals for program participants

  • Create safe and fun atmosphere for all participants

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Diploma or Degree program in Therapeutic Recreation or equivalent (Recreation & Leisure, Recreation Leadership)

  • Maintains current certificate in Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Life Saving course (BCLS) and Standard First Aid

  • Experience working with children and adolescents with physical disabilities and their families is preferred

  • Creativity and ability to adapt and problem solve on demand

  • Relates well to professionals, children, adolescents and family members

  • Ability to manage flexible working hours and fluctuating responsibilities

  • Proven ability to organize time, meet deadlines, and work independently

Additional Qualifications

This position is funded through a government program, which creates summer job opportunities for students; therefore, eligible candidates must be:

  • Students between the ages of 15 and 30 (at the start of the employment)
  • Registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
