ROLE PURPOSE

In this position, you provide various support to clients within a residential setting to meet their emotional, personal, and physical needs. This position is designed to foster learning and will provide hands-on learning opportunities.

Our Individualized Community Living Residential programs are designed to offer a person-centered and structured living environment for adults. These programs focus on monitoring residents for safe community living, helping them acquire skills to become responsible, independent, and contributing members of society, according to program policies, procedures, and individual care plans.

STATUS
  • This is an exempt position.
  • This is a temporary Summer 2025 position for 8 weeks (subject to change).
  • This position is open to applicants of all genders.
  • This position is subject to Connective receiving funding.
HOURS
  • This position is 35 hours per week (subject to change).
  • Hours must be completed between Monday and Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (as per grant rules).
  • All hours must be completed by Friday, August 30, 2025 (as per grant rules).

LEARNING OUTCOMES
  • Understanding of providing services to people with mental health challenges, intellectual disabilities, and/or different learning abilities.
  • Developing programs tailored to the diverse needs of individuals served.
  • Working with clients with developmental disabilities and spectrum disorders, interacting with social agencies, and experiencing psychiatric/personality disorders and legal conflicts.
  • Gaining experience in assessment, case/care plan development, and implementation.
  • Training in MANDT (Crisis-Intervention) and Naloxone.
  • Training sessions with managers or designated staff (3-4 days, with additional training if needed).
  • Review of applicable policies and procedures.
  • Systems training for responsible task completion.
  • Opportunities to participate in webinars and other training related to the service sector.
Key Accountabilities

As a Residence Worker, your responsibilities include:

  • Being a positive role model, providing behavior management and life skills training as needed.
  • Meeting regularly with residents to discuss progress and set future goals.
  • Identifying community resources for social, economic, recreational, employment, and educational needs.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists and psychiatrists, to develop and adjust treatment plans.
  • Monitoring and ensuring effective operation of the facility, including quality control, maintenance, inventory, and food services.
Qualifications and Requirements

We seek candidates who meet the following qualifications:

  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal).
  • Post-secondary education in Social Services, Criminology, or Psychology.
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Eligibility for the Canada Summer Grant.
  • Professional or lived experience with vulnerable populations facing multiple barriers.
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check and reference checks.
  • Current Emergency First Aid certification.
Compensation

The salary for this role is $25.95 per hour.

Additional Notes

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, adhere to weekly hours limits if on a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected.
