Summer Outdoor Learning Camp Educator

Are you passionate about supporting youth mental health and connecting students with the healing power of nature? We’re looking for dynamic, compassionate facilitators to lead our Face to Face Summer Mental Health and Land-Based Learning Program across the following regions, for a two-week contract beginning between July 28th and August 1st, 2025 (dates are flexible).

Program Overview

Educators will work in teams for two-week commitments, which include both planning and implementation time. During these immersive sessions, you’ll blend mental health education with hands-on, outdoor learning—helping students develop resilience, build positive peer relationships, and connect more deeply with the environment.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Facilitation

  • Develop and deliver a safe, engaging, and culturally relevant curriculum that integrates mental health support and outdoor education.
  • Facilitate group discussions and hands-on activities that promote emotional well-being, coping skills, and positive peer interaction.
  • Incorporate outdoor experiences (e.g., walks, team building, nature immersion) that encourage self-reflection and connection to the natural environment.
  • Collaborate with community services and partners to implement diverse programming. Program Coordination & Organization
  • Plan and organize outdoor educational experiences, ensuring proper setup and safety protocols that align with OPHEA standards of practice.
  • Maintain open communication with students and families, providing updates on activities and progress.
  • Work closely with fellow facilitators, mental health professionals, and local stakeholders to enhance program delivery.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Maintain a strong focus on participant safety, both emotionally and physically.
  • Follow all safety guidelines for outdoor activities, including relevant risk management strategies.
  • Be trained or prepared to train in first aid, CPR, and emergency response protocols.

Qualifications

  • Experience facilitating mental health or educational programs for youth.
  • Outdoor education/land-based learning experience is a strong asset.
  • Post-secondary education or certifications in a related field is preferred. Skills & Attributes
  • Strong facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups of students.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Organized with an eye for detail, managing multiple tasks smoothly.
  • Able to adapt programming to meet varying needs and backgrounds.
  • Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach when working with youth.
  • Passion for mental health awareness, resilience-building, and land-based learning.
