Summer Learning – Wellbeing and Engagement Coordinator – Kindergarten to Gr. 6

Summer Learning Wellbeing and Engagement Coordinator

We are seeking Summer Learning Wellbeing and Engagement Coordinators to support educators in delivering Face-to-Face Summer Explorers Camps for students in Grades K-6. Positions are available in the following regions for a two-week contract from July 7th to 11th, 2025, with additional planning time prior to camp:

  • Marathon
  • Terrace Bay
  • Nipigon
  • Greenstone

Program Overview

The Summer Explorers Camp offers a unique combination of literacy, numeracy, mental health education, and land-based learning. This program helps students develop resilience, build positive peer relationships, and connect with nature. Wellbeing and Engagement Coordinators will work collaboratively with educators and facilitators to deliver these immersive sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Support

  • Assist teachers and facilitators in delivering hands-on activities and outdoor learning experiences.
  • Guide small groups of students through discussions, team-building exercises, and nature-based activities.
  • Promote student engagement, safety, and participation throughout all camp sessions.

Mental Health Support

  • Assist in learning opportunities related to stress management, self-care, and mental health awareness.
  • Offer informal check-ins with students to provide active listening and support.
  • Identify and respond to mental health concerns, referring students to additional resources when needed.
  • Support students in expressing concerns, building teamwork, and developing coping strategies.
  • Reinforce positive communication and behavior.
  • Monitor and respond to student needs, escalating issues to educators or facilitators when necessary.

Organization & Safety

  • Help organize program materials and activities.
  • Ensure all outdoor activities adhere to safety protocols, including OPHEA guidelines.
  • Maintain student well-being by following emergency response procedures and supporting first aid/CPR if trained.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and youth in roles such as Child and Youth Worker, Social Worker, or Community Support Worker.
  • Knowledge of mental health and well-being strategies for youth.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to support physical activities, including walking and standing during outdoor sessions.
  • Current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check).
