Job description

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Summer Gardener to join our team from June to the end of August (optional to late Fall). This position involves traveling to and reporting on garden areas at several apartment buildings in the east or west GTA (2 positions). The ideal candidate will have a passion for landscaping, in-depth knowledge of annual and perennial plants, a good eye for detail, and the ability to work independently while traveling and maintaining a schedule across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Travel daily between multiple residential properties to perform garden maintenance
  2. Check on the status of weed, mulch, edge, and water garden beds, shrubs, and flower installations
  3. Inspect seasonal flowers and small shrubs as needed
  4. Ensure that the contracting company maintains neat and clean flower beds and landscaped areas
  5. Identify and report signs of plant disease or pest issues
  6. Dispose of green waste appropriately at each site
  7. Inspect gardens for hazards or maintenance needs and report them to management
  8. Maintain tools and equipment in clean, working order
  9. Interact professionally with site staff and residents when needed
Qualifications
  1. Post-secondary students with a focus in horticulture or related fields preferred
  2. In-depth knowledge of annual and perennial plants
  3. Previous experience in gardening, landscaping, or a combination of experience and coursework
  4. Access to a vehicle to travel between sites
  5. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in various weather conditions
Working Conditions
  1. Outdoor work across multiple locations
  2. Travel between properties required
  3. Supply appropriate outdoor clothing and safety footwear
  4. Self-motivated, organized, and dependable
  5. Knowledge of common plants, flowers, and shrubs in Southern Ontario is an asset
  6. Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
