Join us for the experience of a lifetime - the YMCA is hiring Summer Day Camp Counselors for 2025!

At the Y, we create an exciting, safe camp environment for kids and staff to have an unforgettable summer. While campers participate in unique experiences and adventures, our Summer Day Camp Counselors develop leadership skills and confidence while making lasting friendships and memories.

Pay starts at $17.90 per hour, Monday-Friday schedule

The Summer Day Camp Counselor serves as a professional role model, leading recreational activities that teach life skills, encourage healthy and safe behaviors, and create positive camper experiences. They ensure adequate supervision, making sure no youth are unsupervised at any time.

Responsibilities
  • Promote the YMCA and provide excellent customer service
  • Lead recreational activities including arts and crafts, sports, nature hikes, and more
  • Instruct and modify activities to engage campers of all levels
  • Model socially acceptable behaviors and use positive reinforcement
  • Maintain communication with supervisors and team members
  • Support camp activities and ensure safety and compliance with rules
  • Monitor campers and provide corrective coaching when needed
  • Set up and clean up facilities and equipment
Qualifications
  • Passion for working with diverse youth
  • Enjoy outdoor activities, creative, and willing to work and play hard
  • Experience in camping, childcare, education, or recreation is a plus but not required
  • Must be 18 years or older by the start of camp
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish positive relationships and serve as a role model
  • Willingness to learn and apply new skills
  • Meet physical qualifications as outlined in the job description
Child Abuse Prevention
  • Report hazards and suspicious behavior
  • Follow policies to keep children safe
  • Complete required child abuse prevention training
