Job description

Location : CELC Courtice (St. Mother Teresa Elementary) - Courtice, Ontario

Hours : 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Starting Rate of Pay : $22.12 to $26.12 per hour

Anticipated Start Date : June 27, 2025

Anticipated End Date : August 22, 2025

About the role :

You are passionate about nutrition and have experience cooking for large groups. You are energetic, creative, and resourceful, enjoy interacting with children, and are comfortable engaging with children and families. You possess a valid Food Handlers Certificate as well as the training and documents required by the Ministry of Education to work in a child care setting.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Planning, prepping and cooking nutritious and delicious meals and snacks.
  • Collaborating with a dedicated and passionate team of nutrition specialists.
  • Preparingmenus and food with consideration for childrens food allergies and sensitivities
  • Drafting and preparing seasonal menus in consideration of the Canada Food Guide, the Ministry of Education, and Compass ELC policies and guidelines.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with families and including them in the learning process.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with staff, volunteers, students, community partners, and school staff, including principals, custodians, and teaching teams in shared spaces.
  • Working as part of a team with fellow Co-workers, Families, Community Partners, and Children.
  • Ensuring the safety of staff and children by learning and acknowledging all childrens diverse needs, backgrounds and creating equitable opportunities for all children to engage.
  • Demonstrating respect for spaces by ensuring the safety and cleanliness of all equipment, furniture, and materials.

Skills and Qualifications :

  • 1-3 years experience working / volunteering with children and youth.

1-3 years of experience cooking and preparing food for large groups of people.

  • Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards.
  • Valid certifications include : Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, Updated immunization records, Food Handler's Certificate.
