The Opportunity: The Substance Use Counsellor is responsible for the delivery of client focused and culturally relevant treatment programs that address client needs in an appropriate and effective manner.
- Support clients as they enter the residential treatment program through client interviews, orientation to program services and rules, and coordination of necessary personal items and documentation.
- Conducts assessments at the time of intake to treatment
- Conduct culturally respectful information gathering that honor the client’s lived experience, identity, and community context. The information gathered during this stage will inform the planning of a smooth transition from detox to residential treatment, as well as support effective discharge planning.
- Facilitate psycho-educational and therapeutic circles, provide one-on-one counselling, crisis intervention, and referrals as needed.

What You Will Bring To The Role
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services related field (Social Worker and/or Psychology)
- Qualifies to register with the governing body (i.e. Registered Social Workers (RSW) and Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT))
- The ideal candidate will have previous experience in addictions treatment, addictions counselling, advocacy, community mental health, etc.

Wage Range: The target hiring range for this position is $38.5876 to $49.9719 per hour. Candidates will typically be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the wage range. Placement within the wage range is dependent on the applicants’ role specific knowledge, skills, abilities, related experience and in consideration of factors such as market conditions and internal equity.
