Job summary

Vancouver Island Health Authority (RJH) seeks a Sub-Unit Supervisor for the Microbiology Evening Shift at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. You will oversee the evening staff and ensure smooth microbiology operations.

Reporting to the Laboratory Unit Supervisor, you will manage workflow, participate in quality assurance, student training, and staff evaluations, and assist with budgeting and cross-team coordination.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a recognized diploma program in Medical Laboratory Technology.
• Registration in the relevant field(s) of practice as per CAMLPR or CSMLS pathways.
• ART certification or B.Sc. in Microbiology is an asset.

Responsibilities

Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority ( Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Laboratory Unit Supervisor for Microbiology, supervises and directs evening shift staff, performs laboratory procedures and carries out related technical and administrative duties such as participating in quality assurance, orientation, and student training programs and providing input into staff evaluations and the budget. Liaises with Laboratory and other hospital staff to coordinate workflow and resolve problems as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Successful completion of a recognized diploma program in Medical Laboratory Technology. Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in the relevant field(s) of practice in accordance with the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) pathways, or certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) . Advanced Registered Technologist (A.R.T.) certification or B.Sc. in Microbiology an asset. Four years recent experience in Microbiology required, one year of supervisory experience and evening shift experience an asset, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
