Sub Discipline Manager - IVVQ (Engineering)

Position Summary

We have a current vacancy for an Integration, Verification, Validation, and Qualification (IVVQ) Sub-Discipline Manager who provides IVVQ support throughout the project life cycle from requirements analysis, through development, integration, test and acceptance to integrate, verify, and validate commercial and/or military systems and products. The IVVQ Sub-Discipline Manager supports the Manager/HOD of IVVQ both in terms of team management, and discipline management. They act as the resource manager for a subset of the IVVQ discipline resources, taking care to ensure that each resource under their mentorship is given the support they need to excel in their respective roles. They inspire and catalyse the improvement of best practices, processes, tools and governance within the IVVQ discipline, ensuring that the discipline is mastered effectively. They act as a primary point of contact on complex subjects and take on an educational role so that their team members can reach discipline excellence and deliver competitive solutions within a multidisciplinary environment. They are a mentor and coach - serving the discipline's engineers and offering a diverse and inclusive environment. They are the guardians of an engineering discipline excellence in a learning environment which contribute to our highly competitive advantage.

The IVVQ Sub-Discipline Manager reports to the Manager/HOD of IVVQ.

Key Areas of Responsibility
Resource Manager Responsibilities
  • Provides appropriate resources to deliver bids, projects and products.
  • Plans the team's workload over the short, medium and long term.
  • Develops team skills to support bids, projects and products.
  • Supports recruitment, onboarding, performance management, career management, and succession planning for the team.
  • Coaches, mentors and develops the team.
  • Leads the team to meet company expectations for productivity, chargeability, quality, continuous improvement and accomplishment of objectives.
  • Ensures that company policies and procedures are followed, including timesheets, time off, and travel.
  • Be accountable to both the IVVQ Manager/HOD and the company for their team.
Engineering Manager Responsibilities
  • In the establishment, standardization and evolution of processes, procedures and tooling for the discipline.
  • In ensuring that the discipline processes, procedures and tooling meet the current and future needs of the bids, projects and products.
  • In the development of lessons learned and the sharing of knowledge and experience across the discipline.
  • Foster continuous improvement based on root cause analysis, problem solving and new practice deployment.
  • Support bid, project and product estimates for the discipline and sub-disciplines.
IVVQ Engineering Team Responsibilities
  • Responsible for performing IVVQ work on bids, projects and products.
  • Be able to adopt a holistic approach to analyse a system, focusing on the way that a system's constituent parts interrelate and verity that the systems work over time and within the context of larger systems.
  • Be able to understand the system capabilities through functional, logical and value analytic testing.
  • Understand the importance of requirements definition and tracking.
  • Have notions of Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, R-A-M-T (Reliability/Maintainability/Availability/Testability), and associated norms and standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • An engineering degree, 3-year technical program diploma in a technical field from a recognized university or college program or certified as a technologist by a recognized provincial, state, or federal (national) licensing body in a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in the last 10 years of IVVQ experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the last 10 years managing an IVVQ team, project, or product.
  • Expertise in at least one IVVQ tool.
  • Expertise in at least one IVVQ standard.
  • Expertise in Requirements Management or sell-off.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Preferred Qualifications
  • A University degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field
  • Management of budget worth at least 200k CAD
  • Experience in the Defence industry
  • Fluency in French

Special Position Requirements

Travel: Occasional national and international travel. About 4 times per year.

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) $120,000 - $150,000 CAD Annual.
