Job summary

Nova Scotia Community College is seeking a Student Services Counsellor for the Pictou Campus, Stellarton, NS. You will deliver short-term, individual counselling for personal and career issues, assess risk, and follow up with appropriate interventions and community linkages.

You’ll work with Student Supports to ensure seamless services, participate in provincial consults, and promote equity, trauma-informed care, and culturally sensitive practice while using technology to enhance the student

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling.
• Regulatory registration with NSCCT/NSCSW/NSBEP.
• Minimum four years full-time counselling experience; post-secondary setting a plus.
• Experience facilitating psychoeducational groups and workshops.
• Experience counselling individuals and groups including crisis response.
• Confidential files handling with sound judgment in crises.
• Experience with databases, MS Office, and digital learning platforms.
• Comfort with digital environments and use of technology to enhance student experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide short term, individual counselling for personal and career issues to NSCC students.
• Assess risk and intervene, with follow up and linkages to community agencies.
• Collaborate with Student Supports to ensure seamless student services.
• Participate in monthly Community of Practice and weekly clinical consults.
• Demonstrate commitment to human rights, equity and diversity in service delivery.
• Implement trauma-informed, student-centred care and maintain up-to-date policies knowledge.
• Create and modify counselling plans for students in crisis or at risk.
• Complete accurate documentation following NSCC practices.
• Assist with accommodations related to mental health as required.
• Develop resources and deliver wellbeing initiatives; build campus partnerships.
