The Opportunity

Reporting to the Project Manager, Stormwater, the Student, Water Resources is responsible for supporting the Water Resources Division with updating to our existing GIS system with stormwater assets, creating spatial maps using GIS to assist with stormwater infrastructure inspections as well as locating and organizing documentation to support team initiatives. This position may involve some site inspections to support Water Resources Project Managers with program deliverables.

As the Student, Water Resources, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Assist Water Resources staff in delivering projects related to stormwater management and green infrastructure.
  • Perform GIS tasks such as digitizing spatial features, updating databases and producing maps to support stormwater and infrastructure projects using Town supplied software and ensuring correct Town-wide GIS processes are followed.
  • Support Water Resources Engineering tasks such as facility inspections and tracking maintenance records.
  • Initiate and coordinate records requests to obtain documentation to support team initiatives.
  • Assist with file management on the municipal network, including organizing and filing digital documents.
  • Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an enthusiastic student who is returning in January 2025 to a post-secondary degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Water Resources/Environmental Engineering, or related field. Our ideal candidate has working experience with ESRI GIS platforms, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint and other database management software.

The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. We are seeking an individual with demonstrated interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.

This position offers a rate of pay of $20.62 per hour, based on a 35-hour work week.
