A veterinary service provider in Langford is seeking a Student Veterinary Nurse to support clinical activities while undergoing training. The ideal candidate will assist in various nursing duties, possess at least five GCSEs, and have previous veterinary experience. Job description

Due to the growth of our thriving small animal, first opinion RCVS General Practice accredited practice, we are currently recruiting a Student Veterinary Nurse to join our dedicated and enthusiastic team, which operates to a high standard of nursing care.

We have excellent facilities and benefit from being situated next to the referral hospital, ensuring excellent access for our clients. The first opinion and referral services collaborate as a team for complete patient support, ensuring the highest standard of patient care.

The post is to support the smooth operation of clinical activities within the LVP while undergoing relevant training to become a qualified veterinary nurse. Duties include maintaining the practice environment, facilitating smooth practice operation, inpatient care, anesthesia, radiography, laboratory work, nursing clinics, and pharmacy/reception duties under supervision.

37.5 hours a week, including day release to college, with up to 1 in 3 weekends (currently 1 in 5 Saturdays).

Experience and qualifications:

Our ideal applicant will be reliable, eager to learn, and able to work within a team. Previous veterinary experience is essential.

Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English, maths, and a science, OR an ANA or VCA qualification with functional skills level 2 in application of number and communication.

The salary aligns with the National Apprenticeship scheme: £7.55/hour first year, £12.21/hour second year.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinary surgeons with clinical procedures
  • Perform nursing duties under supervision (monitoring anesthesia, assisting with procedures, patient handling, blood sampling, IV catheter placement, bandaging, wound care, stitch removal)
  • Maintain infection control and clinical environment
  • Take radiographs, properly restrain and position patients
  • Dispense and administer medication, maintain stock, follow protocols, and instruct clients
  • Accurately record patient data, treatments, and client communications
  • Support undergraduate students during rotations
  • Participate in a nurse rota, working shifts between 8:00am-7:30pm, including weekends
  • Maintain good team relationships and effective communication
  • Perform other duties as requested
  • Attend college weekly or as scheduled, and complete study and skill logs for qualification
Person Specification
  • Confident in animal handling and restraint
  • At least one year of veterinary practice experience or equivalent knowledge
  • IT literate
