Job summary

Region of Waterloo is seeking a student in a Treasury Services role to support monthly reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analysis. The position runs January to April 2027 at the Regional Admin Headquarters, offering exposure to accounting processes and reporting in municipal finance.

Qualifications

Must be enrolled in a related university/college program (e.g., Accounting, Business).

Computer skills with MS Office and financial systems.

Responsibilities

Assist with reconciliation of monthly sales and revenue information from systems/terminals and bank accounts, and provide calculations and analysis.
Prepare monthly/annual journal entries.
Analyze, verify, and reconcile debenture transactions in the accounting system monthly.
Analyze, verify, record, and reconcile sinking fund investment transactions and fund contributions; coordinate investment documentation.
Prepare investment schedules, cash flow projections, year-end schedules, financial statements, and FIR schedules.
Investigate and correct errors in the general ledger as requested.
Maintain spreadsheets and generate reports.
Perform other basic accounting functions as assigned.
Provide cost/benefit analyses using financial models and conduct special studies and projects as required.
Use a computer ~90% of the time; file ~10%; lift boxes up to 11 kg/25 lbs.
