Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Chief Chemist, is responsible for assisting with tasks and duties in the Compliance and Quality Control Section, including but not limited to the following:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the laboratory technicians with day-to-day routine sampling and experiments at the WPCP.
  • Keeps lab tidy and assists with glass washing, data entry and sampling at the WPCP.
  • Assists the Environmental Inspector with sampling and field work at SWRF as well as at public sites.
  • May assist the Process Engineer at WPCP with special projects with Chief Chemists approval.
  • Under the direction of the Chief Chemist, may take on special projects and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • Secondary school graduation & enrolled in a program in the natural sciences (chemistry or environmental engineering program preferred) or equivalent, at a college or university.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Must be highly motivated and work well both in a team environment and with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to be professional in public settings
  • Proficient in the use of computers and current related software (Microsoft Office)
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent
  • Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Will be required to work in an industrial plant and a laboratory setting
  • Will be required to perform field work
  • May be required to engage with the public
  • Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • May be required to provide a successful driver’s abstract
