Job description

The Opportunity

RVS invites applications for a continuing, full-time (35 hrs/wk) Student Support Worker position to work a 10-month school calendar starting August 26, 2025, within our Learning Supports department.

The successful candidate must hold a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operators License to provide services across all RVS locations.

The Student Support Worker will implement strategies within the student’s behaviour support plan across various learning environments. This includes proactive strategies to predict and prevent challenging behaviours, as well as safety plans when physical aggression occurs. One-to-One support is provided within constructive relationships that engage and empower students, promoting their care, welfare, and individual rights.

Responsibilities Include

  • Supporting student safety during significant trauma-impacted stress responses, emotional or behavioural dysregulation, or high-risk situations.
  • Reinforcing strategies as directed by teachers and outlined in Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs), Individualized Program Plans (IPPs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), safety, and medical plans tailored to students’ diverse needs.
  • Implementing teacher-led modifications to IPPs and PLPs to meet individual learning needs.
  • Applying behaviour management strategies as needed.
  • Recording observations and behavioural data to support positive strategies, as directed by teachers.
  • Supervising students under the teacher’s guidance.
  • Motivating and engaging students to foster positive behavioural, social, and emotional development, in collaboration with teachers.
  • Willing and able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Education / Experience

  • Two-year diploma in a related field such as Child and Youth Care, Human Services, or Social Work.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Certification in Standard First Aid and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of community support agencies and professionals.
  • Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour or willingness to obtain certification in divisional programs.
  • 6% vacation pay.
