What you’ll do

Responsibilities

As a member of NSCC’s Environmental and Agricultural Technology Research Lab at the Annapolis Valley campus in Middleton, the Student Research Assistant will help Research Associates conduct plant and soil research. This includes setting up studies, maintaining plots, and sampling. The position may involve fieldwork in support of data collection trips and may require indoor and outdoor work environments.

To be eligible for this student research assistant position:

  • You must be a current part-time or full-time NSCC student.
What you’ll need

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications: Working on completing a college diploma
  • Minimum experience: Interest in developing climate-resilient plants and tissue culture; experience in a lab environment is a plus
  • Experience in horticulture, plant ecology, crop science, and soil science would be an asset but is not required
  • Experience with compiling diverse datasets from various sources
  • Ability to conduct lab and field research studies with minimal supervision
  • Minimum qualifications: Excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Exceptional client service skills and a proven team player
  • Ability to work as a team member in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to gather facts and information beyond symptoms
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
