DUTIES

The Student Recruiter – Advisor is part of the Faculty of Science team. Reporting to the Manager, Academic Planning and Review, this role involves connecting with prospective students and key influencers (family, school counsellors, community members, etc.) to promote the Faculty of Science through high school visits, on-campus events, and career fairs across BC and Canada. The position also provides information on programs, admission requirements, and registration to prospective students and applicants. In collaboration with the Events & Marketing Support Specialist, the role assists with planning and executing campus recruitment initiatives like open houses, campus tours, faculty events, calling campaigns, mailings, and electronic communications with prospective students, families, and school counsellors.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, organize, and conduct visits to Canadian secondary schools to meet with counsellors and advise prospective students on programs, applications, scholarships, housing, etc.
  • Develop an annual recruitment plan aligned with the Strategic Enrolment Management Plan to meet yearly goals.
  • Prepare and analyze reports on application, admission, and conversion data; allocate recruitment resources effectively.
  • Deliver recruitment presentations at schools and fairs, including scheduling, travel arrangements, and collecting prospect information.
  • Follow up with contacts made during visits.
  • Evaluate recruitment activities, prepare reports, and recommend improvements.
  • Advise prospective students, counsellors, and others on academic offerings, admission, housing, scholarships, and services via various communication channels.
  • Provide educational and first-year planning support prior to admission.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community networks using media, including social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with other post-secondary institutions to enhance recruitment activities.
  • Plan and conduct on-campus and virtual recruitment events with faculty and staff.
  • Assist with updating recruitment materials, collecting data, and developing presentations in collaboration with internal departments.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Relevant educational background required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one year of related experience in a post-secondary environment involving public speaking or group facilitation.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, OR ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of university policies, admission requirements, and programs.
  • Proficiency with social media, content marketing, and engagement strategies.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Zoom, Banner, and other software.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills with diverse audiences, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to conduct effective presentations.
  • Courteous and tactful interaction with students, parents, and partners.
  • A positive, respectful workplace attitude.
  • Strong planning, prioritization, and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel independently within Canada, including extended periods.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license without restrictions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Extensive travel within Canada, including off-campus school visits and fairs.
  • Standing for long periods at events.
  • Lifting and carrying items up to 20 kg.
  • Setting up equipment at off-site locations.
  • Flexible work hours, including some evenings and weekends.

The salary is determined by the CUPE Collective Agreement, with a pay band of $32.12 - $35.69 per hour (CUPE Grade 09), potentially starting at 90% for the first 560 hours.
