AIMCo in Edmonton invites you to join our Quantitative Analytics & Reporting team for a 12-month internship to build real-world risk analytics skills while supporting investment risk management.

You will apply quantitative methods, develop automated reporting and data workflows, and contribute to risk metrics. Ideal candidates are graduates in math, statistics, CS, data science or finance with SQL, Python and PowerBI interest.

Qualifications

  • Recent graduate from a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or quantitative finance.
  • Strong SQL, Python, and PowerBI skills with a data-driven analytical mindset.
  • Interest in financial markets, investment management, and risk analytics.
  • Curiosity about/enthusiasm for emerging technologies including ML/AI to solve business problems.
  • Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Apply quantitative analytical skills to analyze risk outputs, identify patterns and insights.
  • Develop, automate, and improve risk analytics, reporting processes, and data workflows.
  • Support production and monitoring of risk metrics and risk reports.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes through new technologies and analytics tools.
  • Document analytical methodologies and governance processes.

The Quantitative Analytics & Reporting Team Is Responsible For Developing And Maintaining Risk Analytics, Reporting, And Actionable Insights That Support Effective Investment Risk Management. Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Apply strong quantitative analytical skills to analyze risk outputs, identify patterns and anomalies, and develop insights that support investment decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development, enhancement, and automation of risk analytics, reporting processes, and data workflows to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Support the production and monitoring of risk metrics, ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of risk reports.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes through the application of latest technologies and analytical tools to improve the risk data, analytics and reporting capabilities
  • Assist in documenting analytical methodologies and operational processes to support governance, knowledge sharing, and process continuity.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
  • Recent graduate from a quantitative oriented fields such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, quantitative finance or a related field. Graduate degree is strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical skillset (SQL, Python, PowerBI, etc.) and passion in developing data-driven analytical solutions.
  • Strong interest in financial markets, investment management, and risk analytics, with a solid foundation in quantitative methodologies and risk management concepts.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and applying emerging technologies, including machine learning and artificial intelligence to solve business problems and improve processes.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work.
  • Progress toward, or interest in pursuing, professional designations such as CFA or FRM is considered an asset.
Success Measures

By the end of your term, you will have gained practical experience applying programming, quantitative analysis, and emerging technologies to real-world risk management and analytics challenges. You will develop a practical understanding of how investment risk is measured, monitored, and managed within a leading institutional investor, gaining insights that extend well beyond the classroom. Through hands-on work, mentorship, and collaboration with experienced professionals, you will strengthen your technical and analytical capabilities, deepen your knowledge of the investment management industry, and build relationships that support your long-term professional growth.
