Job summary

Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) invites talented students to join our Public Equities team for a Summer 2027 internship. This four-month, full-time role runs May through August and offers exposure to portfolio construction, beta management, and global investment opportunities.

You will support reporting, assist in researching quantitative models, and collaborate with a professional team to gain hands-on experience at a leading Canadian investment manager.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, economics, math, statistics, computer science or related field.
• Exposure to Bloomberg or Capital IQ is an asset.
• Experience with programming, especially in Python, is an asset.

• Assisting in the development of reports and tools to help portfolio managers increase the efficiency and transparency of our products.

Opportunity AIMCo’s Public Equities team provides core asset class exposure to Canadian and global equity markets. The team combines internally and externally managed strategies to help meet our clients’ objectives. Internally managed investments include Systematic, Alpha, and Fundamental strategies that currently invest in more than 45 countries around the world. Externally-managed investments include long-only equity and hedge fund strategies and are employed in areas where internal management does not offer a competitive or cost advantage. Within Public Equities, the Portfolio Construction team helps bring these strategies together, along with other types of strategies, to offer performant products to clients within our risk tolerance at competitive costs. The Beta Management team manages the asset class’s index exposures. Each of these teams is seeking an intern for Summer 2027. Note: This is a 4-month, full-time term from May 2027 through August 2027.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in the development of reports and tools to help portfolio managers increase the efficiency and transparency of our products
• Assisting the team to more accurately assess product positioning across different country, industry, and style factors, for the purposes of considering new or existing investment opportunities
• Assisting in the research and development of quantitative models and alpha signals
• Collaborating with team members to develop a practical understanding of the day-to-day operations of a global investment firm

Ideal Candidate

• In pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, economics, math, statistics, computer science or related field
• Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of investment management through involvement in related extra-curricular activities
• Pursuit of, or the intent to pursue, the CFA designation is an asset
• Exposure to Bloomberg or Capital IQ is an asset
• Experience with programming, especially in Python, is an asset
• Collaborative team player with good communication and relationship building skills
• High attention to detail and a desire to advance analytical skillsets

Success Measures

Success at the end of your term will be determined by your ability to seek out learning opportunities and become involved in multiple projects, tasks, responsibilities and investments. You will have developed an increased understanding of investment concepts and market knowledge, and a new appreciation of finance and investment management. A student who goes above and beyond expectations will participate in multiple projects and add value to team initiatives.

Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening, which includes a credit bureau and a criminal record investigation, the results of which must be acceptable to AIMCo.
