Job summary

Bird Construction is seeking a Student Project Coordinator for a 4 or 8 month co-op starting January 2027. You will be assigned a Supervisor and Technical Mentor to manage your own project area on a current construction site.

Responsibilities include coordinating drawings, reviewing quotes, maintaining schedules, updating field and as-built drawings, and supporting trades on site while developing leadership and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in Civil, Mechanical, Structural, or Industrial Engineering.
• Must complete at least one more semester and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Ability to adapt to frequent changes and build relationships.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Residency or valid work permit to work for Bird Construction.
• Current transcript must be provided.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate drawings and scope/trades.
• Review trade quotes, verify quantities, hours and rates.
• Participate in project meetings.
• Conduct deficiency walks and update deficiency logs.
• Issue warranties and take progress photos.
• Update field drawings and produce as-built drawings.
• Update project schedules and create manual schedules.
• Obtain scheduling information from sub-trades and maintain graphs.
• Monitor manpower productivity.

Our internships and Co-ops are designed to provide you with a business relevant project that will allow you to independently manage your own area of responsibility, while receiving support from an assigned Supervisor and Technical Mentor. We’ll help you discover your strengths and development areas in a challenging, fun, and supportive work environment.

Projects are scoped in alignment with your term length, and typically focus on a current construction project.

We are seeking a student to join us for a 4 or 8 month co‑op position starting in January 2027. This role will have positions available throughout AB, BC, and SK.

Project Coordination

• Coordinate drawings and work specific scope/trades.
• Review trade quotes, verify material quantities, hours, and rates.
• Participate in project meetings.
• Conduct deficiency walks and update deficiency logs.
• Issue warranties.
• Take and coordinate progress photos.
• Update field drawings and produce as‑built drawings.

Field Coordination

• Perform quantity takeoffs.
• Coordinate sub-trade work.
• Verify site conditions and coordinate with drawings.
• Supervise sub-trade work.
• Set up and maintain record keeping.
• Layout site lines and grades using total station.

Scheduling

• Update project schedules.
• Create manual schedules and update schedules
• Obtain scheduling information from sub-trades.
• Create and maintain graphical scheduling
• Monitor manpower productivity.
