Job summary

Sun Life is seeking a Student Analyst – Process Automation to join the Digital Platforms Modernization Mainframe Services and VRO. You’ll design, build, and test workflow automations using Power Automate, ServiceNow, and Power Platform while learning the mainframe environment.

You will work with stakeholders to analyze processes, document requirements, and develop automated solutions that improve efficiency and user experience, in a collaborative Agile setting.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a relevant program and graduating April 2027 or later.
• Interest in process automation and workflow design.
• Experience with Power Automate, Power Platform, ServiceNow or similar.
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to document processes and test workflows.

Responsibilities

• Meet with stakeholders to understand workflows, pain points, and automation opportunities.
• Document requirements, personas, and user stories for workflow automation.
• Map current‑state and future‑state processes.
• Build and test automated workflows using Power Automate, ServiceNow automation, or similar tools.
• Create reusable templates and best‑practice automation patterns.
• Follow defined development and change management standards.
• Develop and execute test cases to validate automation behaviour.
• Identify, log, and troubleshoot defects.
• Work with developers and SMEs to ensure solutions meet requirements.
• Create workflow documentation, SOPs, and reference guides.
• Assist in reporting automation or dashboard development.
• Maintain version control of workflow assets.

Join Sun Life’s Digital Platforms Modernization Mainframe Services and Value Realization Office (VRO) for a hands‑on role designing, building, and testing workflow automations that help modernize our business processes. As a Student Analyst – Process Automation , you will support our teams by improving operational efficiency, enhancing internal user experience, and contributing to automation initiatives using tools such as Microsoft Power Automate, ServiceNow, Power Platform, and other internal automation ecosystems, all while learning about the mainframe environment and what it takes to power a large corporation.

This role is ideal for a student who enjoys problem solving, process improvement, and applying technology to real‑world business challenges.

What You’ll Do

Process & Requirements Analysis

• Meet with stakeholders to understand workflows, pain points, and automation opportunities
• Document requirements, personas, and user stories for workflow automation
• Map current‑state and future‑state processes

Automation Development

• Build and test automated workflows using Microsoft Power Automate, ServiceNow automation, or similar tools
• Create reusable templates and best‑practice automation patterns
• Follow defined development and change management standards

Testing & Quality Assurance

• Develop and execute test cases to validate automation behaviour
• Identify, log, and troubleshoot defects
• Work with developers and SMEs to ensure solutions meet requirements

Documentation & Reporting

• Create workflow documentation, SOPs, and reference guides
• Assist in reporting automation or dashboard development
• Maintain version control of workflow assets

Team Collaboration

• Participate in Agile ceremonies (standups, planning, demos, retros)
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, analysts, and automation developers
• Escalate blockers early and contribute to continuous improvement

What You Bring

• Currently enrolled in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business Tech Management, Math, or a related field
• Strong interest in process automation and workflow design with a curiosity to learn about delivery processes
• Comfort working with tools like Microsoft Power Automate, Power Platform, ServiceNow, or similar
• Analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving skills
• Ability to document processes, test workflows, and validate results
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Curiosity, initiative, and desire to learn new tools and technologies
• A graduation date of April 2027 or later.

Nice to Have

• Experience with low‑code/no‑code tools
• Familiarity with APIs, connectors, or data integrations and AI frameworks
• Understanding of Agile practices
• Experience with process mapping tools (Miro, Lucid, Visio)
• Basic scripting (Python, JavaScript) considered an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted for. The Base Pay which you will be considered for will vary depending on the Campus program you are selected for.
