A leading energy company in Alberta is seeking a Laboratory Technologist for a 12-month term starting January 2026. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, and critical thinking abilities, and be enrolled in a Chemical Laboratory Technology program. This position includes opportunities for mentorship and hands-on experience in the Oil & Gas industry, as well as safety certifications required at the site.

About this opportunity

Our Laboratory Technologist position provides opportunities to build a solid understanding of the Oil & Gas Industry and the opportunity for you to apply and build upon your laboratory skills. Applicants are welcome to apply for these 12-month terms starting in January 2026.

SUNRISE

  • This position is a Fly-in/Fly-out position.
  • It consists of an 84 hour work week. Straight days at 12 hours/day with 6 hours on the first and last day; 8 days on 6 days off
  • Sunrise has full-service camp facilities
  • Air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations. Sunrise is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton

What you’ll do
  • Processing routine internal samples, as well as assisting with internal analysis by various types of lab instrumentation/methods which could include the following: Inductively Coupled Plasma, Spectrophotometry, Auto-Titration, Densitometer, Viscometer, Ion Chromatography, Dean Stark Distillation and BS&W
  • Collection of emulsion samples in the Field Facility
  • Maintain calibration, functionality, and supply levels of lab instruments and consumables.
  • Document and chart daily Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities for all equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records and certificates for reference materials, instruments, standards, and products.
  • Ensure compliance of test methods and reference standards with laboratory requirements
Who you are

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada full-time for the duration of your work term and able to produce documentation upon application (e.g., work visa)
  • Available to begin work in January 2026
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Critical thinker and ability to work independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced, high-performing, team environment
  • Flexible to changing work demands and ability to prioritize
  • Innovative, with a strong desire to learn and the ability to encourage new ways of looking at problems, processes or solutions
  • Demonstrates collaboration by actively seeking out diverse people and organizations to collectively achieve business goals
  • Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Understanding of key safety principles and demonstrated safety leadership

Education
  • Must be enrolled in a Chemical Laboratory Technology Undergraduate Program at an accredited post-secondary institution at the time of intended work term and returning to full-time studies after the work term OR registered in an accredited post-secondary co-op or internship program for the duration of the work term
  • Candidates currently enrolled in either a Masters or Ph.D. program at an accredited post-secondary institution may also be considered
  • New graduates are not eligible for student opportunities.
Working Conditions
  • May include frequency of travel, sitting, standing, computer work, lifting, driving, working at site, etc.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs (23 kg)
  • Work scope requires sampling outdoors with varying weather conditions.
Safety Sensitive
  • Successful Candidates require H2S Alive Certification prior to arriving at site
  • SCBA training/Certification will be provided upon site arrival
  • This may be a safety-sensitive role, and you will also be required to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during required work hours. Furthermore, you will also be required to pass the pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol assessment requirements.
  • Safety sensitive positions require the operation of a motor vehicle, applicants are asked to provide a recent (i.e., issued within the previous 4 weeks) original driver’s abstract, for the preceding 5-year period, if offered the position. A valid Canadian class 5 Driver's License with no restrictions is a requirement for this role
