Student, Identity Analyst – Hybrid
The Opportunity
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Business Solutions Architecture team is leading several initiatives to modernize Identity solutions to meet enterprise business requirements within the AER. We have an opportunity to leverage a student’s skill set to collaborate and contribute to our goals in the Identity Management area by performing various tasks and assisting with Identity solutions and process streamlining. This role requires a self-starter with creativity, someone passionate about learning and growing a career in IT, and interested in understanding end-to-end Identity architecture. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to help develop strategic Identity roadmaps and establish enterprise authentication/authorization solutions for public, external, and internal users.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Work with various AER teams to identify and configure permissions for administering Azure resources, including the implementation of just-in-time provisioning and role-based access with Azure identity governance.
- Identify and implement improvements to automate the Account Provisioning process, reducing manual steps for creating, deleting, and updating accounts using Azure workflows and access packages.
- Implement SaaS applications with Azure Enterprise Applications.
- Ensuring Identities are secured by working with various teams on the implementation of Conditional Access, Intune, Microsoft Defender.
- Assist in designing and deploying the Identity platform to support AER’s external systems, including industry and public accounts.
What we’re looking for in you:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Computer Science, or a related field.
- Understanding of Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) implementation, with experience or knowledge of SAML, LDAP, OAuth, and OpenID preferred.
- Experience with Azure Identity Governance, Privileged Identity Management, Access Packages, Access Reviews, and IAM permissions configuration is preferred.
- Proficiency in scripting and coding, particularly with JavaScript and PowerShell, is an asset.
- Experience using Azure DevOps tools, Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate certification, and familiarity with Azure Intune and Microsoft Defender are assets.
- Motivated, self-starter with curiosity and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Responsible for completing assigned deliverables and communicating insights and potential issues to team members.
- Ability to establish priorities and work independently, as well as part of a team, with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with various AER teams.

- Proof of enrollment in a registered post-secondary institution including enrollment in the semester following the work term, or enrollment in a registered co-op program will be a condition of hire.
