Job Summary

The Student Health & Wellness Centre provides Dalhousie and King’s students and currently registered community patients with primary health care and counselling services (students only). Reporting to the Director of Operations and as part of the administrative team, the Student Health & Wellness Clerk will provide necessary day-to-day logistical, medical office, and clerical support in keeping the Student Health & Wellness Centre’s operations running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide front desk reception duties at the front counter of the Student Health & Wellness Centre including appointment booking and patient registration in an electronic health record ( EHR ) software (using in person, phone and online systems to book appointments, prepare and update client charts with current demographic and insurance information, greet and check patients in for their appointments).
  • Demonstrate responsive, compassionate and helpful customer service in responding to in-person, electronic and telephone inquiries from a diversity of patients.
  • Using the EHR , distribute letters, incoming mail and faxed correspondence, lab results, requisitions as directed, ensuring a high degree of accuracy and timely completion related to confidential health information.
  • Process payments for uninsured services using credit card/debit terminal.

Note

This position currently has a 35-hour weekly schedule from Monday to Friday. The clinic’s hours of operation are M-Th 8 am – 7 pm, F 8 am – 6 pm and Saturdays from 10 am – 4pm from September to April; and M-F 8 am – 5 pm from May – August. The hours for this position are Monday – Friday 9:30 am – 5:00 pm. Scheduling is subject to change with appropriate notice based on operational requirements and in accordance with the collective agreement.

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Medical Office Administration program completion with approximately three to five years’ medical office experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Demonstrated experience in providing exceptional customer service, drawing on strong communication (verbal and written) skills, ability to work well in a team environment in providing inclusive support to a diversity of patients.
  • Excellent working knowledge of medical terminology, experience with an electronic medical record.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a busy, fast-paced environment with a wide variety of clients and to handle confidential information in accordance with PHIA , PIPEDA , and FOIPOP .
  • Attention to detail along with good organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Solid computer skills (word processing, email, payment systems, spreadsheets, and internet) with the demonstrated ability to learn new programs.
