Job description

Student Finance & Awards Officer

Primary Purpose:

To act as a liaison and provide support to Indigenous students and stakeholders, with a strong understanding of awards, financial aid, and student sponsorship, especially as they relate to Indigenous students' financial challenges. The role involves communication, support for awards programs, and event coordination.

Nature of Work:

Reporting to the Director and Associate Registrar, the role involves analyzing student and sponsorship situations, making decisions, and collaborating with team members. It requires cross-cultural sensitivity, resilience, dependability, and a commitment to high service standards.

Typical Duties/Accountabilities:
  1. Review processes related to sponsorships and awards, supporting communication between students, finance, and external stakeholders.
  2. Ensure accurate award application processing and develop innovative outreach methods, including website updates and Banner system support.
  3. Create communication strategies to strengthen relationships and improve service levels.
  4. Understand financial processes, support contract setup, and provide timely, accurate information to students about awards and sponsorships.
  5. Lead and foster a student-centered approach, engage in professional development, and serve as a resource on campus.
  6. Collaborate with Indigenous communities and internal units to provide integrated, culturally relevant services.
  7. Participate in initiatives, analyze data, and recommend process improvements.
  8. Uphold fiduciary responsibilities through internal controls and accurate fee assessments.
  9. Deliver presentations to stakeholders and contribute to broader Indigenous strategies.
  10. Support the Scholarships and Awards Committee and align with university values and strategic plans.
Qualifications:

Education: Undergraduate degree minimum.

Experience: 1-2 years in a student-centered environment, knowledge of university processes, preferably with Banner, and understanding of Indigenous cultures and barriers faced by Indigenous students.

Skills: Customer service, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, confidentiality, organization, innovation, partnership-building, and cultural awareness.

Salary: $53,091 - $82,954 annually, commensurate with experience
