About The Office Of Student Experience

The Office of Student Experience creates meaningful opportunities for connection, belonging, and growth for students. We lead the First-Year Mentorship Program, Orientation programming, and Multifaith and Spirituality support on campus, while also coordinating large-scale university events. Our office combines data, innovation, and best practices to design strategies and initiatives that help students thrive during their transition to university and throughout their academic journey. Engagement is directly tied to persistence and satisfaction, so our goal is to holistically support student success at university and beyond.

About The Role

The Student Experience & Engagement Coordinator is a pivotal position that works to enhance student experience and create a vibrant and inclusive campus community by developing and executing student-centered programming and events. Reporting to the Supervisor, Student Engagement, the Student Experience and Engagement Coordinator designs and delivers proactive and responsive initiatives that meet the evolving needs of students and the campus community. This role leads the coordination of low-barrier, scalable programs that support first-year students, upper-year students, and those engaged with the Multifaith and Spirituality portfolio.

Responsibilities

Working collaboratively with the Student Experience team, the Coordinator helps create transformational experiences through events and programs. Responsibilities include conducting research, planning and implementing engagement opportunities, and ensuring a strong evaluation process that prioritizes holistic student development.

Deliver Transformational Experiences

  • Responsible for the conceptualization, development and delivery of existing and new large scale, student-centered, research-informed programming to create a vibrant campus community.
  • Plan and coordinate and maintain campus events such as the Campus Carnival, Colour Run, Student Leadership Conference and interfaith campus initiatives.
  • Supports individual faith leaders and their logistical needs for programming and events, part of the Multi-faith and Spirituality portfolio in the Office of Student Experience
  • Engage in exceptional event management practices to deliver outstanding programming through the use of fiscally responsible approaches to deliver high-quality, highly-visible events on campus.
  • Demonstrates budget management and best financial practices including purchasing card reconciliation, Requests for Proposals and other financial requirements for event execution
  • Generate sponsorship revenue to support meaningful initiatives.
  • Coordinates logistics of both online and in-person programming for students, including registration, communication, way-finding, and user experience
  • Implements universal design for learning strategies and differentiated approaches for event planning and communication development for events.

Student Engagement Through Research & Assessment

  • Working with the supervisor, use relevant data to inform programming including the use of NSSE, CUSC, Mount Royal's data visualizations, and other existing data sources.
  • Supports supervisor in conducting effective assessment and evaluations to constantly improve and innovate. All programming is rooted in intentional and clearly-defined outcomes.
  • Assessment and evaluation methods and tools are aligned with intended outcomes.
  • Supports team in collecting, monitoring and communicate student experience trends, outcomes, challenges, and gaps
  • Uses sound theoretical frameworks to support programming including the eight dimensions of wellness, Lizzie's five senses model, Chickering's theory of development, and Bandura's theory of self-efficacy.

Communication & Strategic Partnerships

  • Develops and implements strategic marketing and communication plans.
  • Implements and supports in the development of, innovative sponsorship strategies including drafting proposals, developing performance indicators, and cultivating reciprocal relationships while following all relevant institutional policies and procedures
  • Supports all partnership engagement and logistical needs including sponsorship and vendor management.
  • Communicates through multiple mediums including email, social media, posters, newsletter, Learning Management System(s) (D2L), and Content Management System(s) (website).
  • Develops and facilitates student-facing initiatives that require strong public speaking skills
  • Collaborates intentionally with all campus partners, and specifically, the Orientation Coordinator in delivery of student support and success initiatives
Qualifications
  • Three or four-year bachelor's degree
  • Proven experience in recruiting, engaging and cultivating volunteers.
  • Experience in event management.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends
  • Experience in working across disciplines and with multiple interested parties.
  • Proven project management experience with large-scale planning.
  • Exceptional understanding of program development and assessment.
  • Excellent oral, verbal and written communication including formal presentations.
  • Ability to conduct research and analyze data.
  • Understanding of experiential learning and the developmental process.
  • Time management, ability to meet deadlines, organization and attention to detail.
  • Computer proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft (Word, PowerPoint and excel)
  • Ability to work well under extreme pressure
