Job summary

Bird Construction in Edmonton offers a hands-on Student Equipment Coordinator co-op starting January 2027 for 4 or 8 months. You will manage tool supply, track transfers, load cans, and assist in yard operations under supervision and a technical mentor.

You will gain practical experience with heavy equipment like loaders and forklifts, participate in toolbox meetings, and develop organization and communication skills in a safety-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Heavy Equipment Technology, Construction Management or a related program.
  • Will complete at least one more semester of education with GPA 3.0 or higher.
  • Basic construction, equipment, and tool handling knowledge is an asset.
  • Ability to lead and adapt in a changing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Residency or valid work permit to work for Bird Construction or subsidiaries.
  • Possible pre-employment Medical and/or Alcohol & Drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the supply of tools.
  • Track transfers of tools and small equipment to and from the yard.
  • Load C cans with various tools.
  • Help with C can shelving modifications.
  • Install Westrac GPS/signage on all items.
  • Repair small equipment such as heaters and other tools.
  • Learn to operate heavy equipment in a yard setting (loader, skid steer, forklift, zoomboom).
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Pick up parts (parts runs).
  • Gain knowledge of electrical items such as cable and panels.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings.
  • Conduct inventory logs of equipment and tools.
  • Take and coordinate Westrac catalog photos of supplies.
  • Monthly safety inspections.

Student Equipment Coordinator

Our internships and Co-ops are designed to provide you with a business relevant project that will allow you to independently manage your own area of responsibility, while receiving support from an assigned Supervisor and Technical Mentor. We’ll help you discover your strengths and development areas in a challenging, fun, and supportive work environment.

We are seeking a student to join us for a 4 or 8 month co‑op position starting in January 2027. This position will be based out of Edmonton, Alberta.

What You Will Be Working On
  • Coordinate the supply of tools
  • Track all transfers of tools and small equipment to and from the yard
  • Load c cans with various tools
  • Help with c can shelving modifications
  • Install Westrac GPS/signage on all things
  • Work with others repairing small equipment such as heaters and various other tools
  • Learn to operate heavy equipment in a yard setting. Loader, skid steer, forklift, zoomboom.
  • Loading and unloading trucks
  • Pick up parts (parts runs) when needed.
  • Gain basic knowledge of basic electrical items such as cable and panels
  • Participate in toolbox meetings.
  • Conduct inventory logs of equipment and tools
  • Take and coordinate westrac “catalog” photos of various supplies in the yard for site
  • Monthly safety inspections
What We Are Looking For
  • You are currently enrolled in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Heavy Equipment Technology, Construction Management, or a related diploma, degree, or equivalent program.
  • You will completeat least one more semester of education following your internshipand possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Basic construction, equipment, and tool handling knowledge is an asset
  • Ability to lead and operate within an environment where change happens frequently
  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships

  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
