Job summary

Okanagan College in Kelowna seeks a Student Content Creator to assist the Digital Marketing Specialist with storytelling and promotional activities featuring OC students, faculty and staff.

You will produce engaging posts, videos, stories, and photos, manage OC's social media presence, and develop a content calendar aligned to campus events. This on-site role offers hands-on experience in a vibrant college community.

Qualifications

  • Experience with social media platforms and storytelling.
  • Able to work independently and in a team; meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a content calendar that aligns with the College’s key events and campaigns. Support the OC brand by ensuring all content reflects the College’s identity and values.
  • Engage with students, faculty, and alumni to gather content ideas and identify student success stories. Attend events and activities on campus to capture content and promote the vibrant OC community. Be a representative for the student body and ensure that content resonates with peers.

Your Opportunity

In accordance with Letter of Understanding #1 – Student Employees, and under the direct supervision of the Digital Marketing Specialist in College Relations, the Student assists the department in digital storytelling and promotional activities featuring OC students, faculty, and staff.

Functions and Duties

The Student will assist the supervisor by performing the following duties:

  1. Produce high-quality, engaging content (posts, videos, stories, reels, photos) that captures the OC student experience and showcases Okanagan College’s values of inclusivity, accessibility, and hands‑on learning.
  2. Work with a variety of digital formats and platforms, ensuring consistency in messaging and tone.

Education and Experience

Enrolled in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College. Prior work experience is an asset.

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills, with experience in content creation (videography, photography).
  • Basic knowledge of digital editing tools (e.g., Canva, CapCut, or similar platforms) is an asset.
  • Passion for storytelling and a keen eye for creating visually appealing content.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and trends in digital marketing.
  • Ability to create engaging, shareable content tailored to different audiences.
  • Experience or interest in developing social media strategies to drive engagement.
  • Strong time management and project management abilities, with the ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple tasks.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Enthusiastic about building connections and working with diverse groups within the OC community.
  • Comfortable being on camera and interviewing and interacting with students, faculty, and staff to capture authentic stories.
