Position: Student Custodian

Department: Community Services and Strategic Partnerships

Division: Facilities

Reports to: Manager of Facilities

Purpose and Scope

The Student Custodian is responsible for assisting the Head Custodian with the cleanliness of Quinte West owned facilities. The position is responsible for performing various duties for keeping facilities clean and in orderly condition.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will:

  • Assist with performing routine housekeeping tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, sanitizing and garbage removal.
  • Properly handle and organize custodial supplies. Assist in maintaining adequate inventory of chemicals and supplies for assigned areas.
  • Assist with cleaning and light maintenance in office areas, locker rooms, washrooms, break rooms, conference rooms, and all other areas as assigned.
  • Assist with pre and post cleaning for special events, assisting with the set-up and teardown of equipment for special events, and assisting with event security.
  • Recognize and report maintenance and safety issues to Head Custodian in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adherence to the City’s Occupational Health and Safety policies, City Policies and Procedures, and all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Education/Specialized Training/Skills:

The incumbent must have:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s Licence and safe driving record.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and team skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS.
Work Experience:

Previous work experience in customer service, custodial operations, or a maintenance background.

Decision Making:

This position must make decisions that may impact their safety and the safety of others.

Supervision:
  • Not Applicable.
  • Evening and weekend work required.
  • This position may be required to work a combination of day shifts, afternoon shifts, and weekends.
