Friends of Ruby is dedicated to supporting the well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 16-29 through mental health services, social programs, and housing. We operate a Youth Drop-In Centre, offering barrier-free counselling, hot meals, and community programming, and a Transitional Home, providing emergency and long-term housing with life-skills support.

About the Role

As a Student Case Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Comprehensive Case Management: Support participants through case management by conducting
    assessments, creating client-centered care plans, managing crises, monitoring progress, and facilitating discharge planning with a strengths-based approach.

  • Housing Navigation & Support: Assist participants in securing stable housing by guiding them through applications, attending viewings and lease signings, collecting required documents, and ensuring a smooth move-in process.
  • Community Engagement & Advocacy: Build community partnerships and advocates for participants by connecting them with external services, attending case conferences, and supporting access to relevant community, legal, and 2SLGBTQIA+ resources.
  • Program Facilitation & Participant Support: Enhance participant well-being by facilitating life skills workshops, supporting daily routines and structured programming, and maintaining respectful, trust-based relationships with both residents and team members.
  • Administrative Support: Maintain accurate documentation, prepare reports, distribute resources according to policy, and contribute to the smooth operation of the program through administrative tasks.

What You Bring

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary university or college program. Working toward a degree or diploma in Social Work, Social Service Work, Community Services, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Preferred experience in:
    • Case management, mental health, crisis support, and supportive housing.
    • Non-profit, 2SLGBTQIA+, and social justice-focused sectors.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Toronto’s housing programs, housing rights, and related legal frameworks.
    • Mental health supports and case management best practices.
  • Interest in working with 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and a strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-oppression, anti-racism, and trauma-informed care approaches.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office; familiarity with client databases (e.g., TREAT) is an asset.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
