Job Description:

PLEASE READ EMPLOYMENT STIPULATIONS FOR POSITION PRIOR TO APPLYING

Students applying to this position must be in receipt of OSAP or out-of-province assistance during the current or prior academic year or must have a demonstrated financial need determined using Financial Aid and Student Awards standardized needs and assessment budget calculation tool.

For students to be eligible for CSEP positions, they must be registered in a full-time program, be a domestic fee-paying student, and must be able to demonstrate a financial need by successfully applying for OSAP or out-of-province financial aid funding.

Under the supervision of the Academic Assistance for Adults with Developmental Disabilities (AAADD) Program Coordinator and reporting to the Academic Chair, Wellness, the Camp Counsellor supports the delivery of the AAADD Summer Program by guiding participants through various indoor and outdoor activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide superior customer service.
  • Communicate with AAADD staff throughout the day.
  • Assist with implementation and clean-up of activities.
  • Assist with transitioning campers from one activity to the other.
  • Willing and ready to take on emergencies/potential behaviour challenges.
  • Assist with beginning and end-of-day procedures.
  • Adhere to a daily routine and schedule.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Partially or fully completed post-secondary education, preferably in Developmental Service Worker, Recreation & Leisure Services or Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Experience as a camp counsellor and working with adults with developmental disabilities are considered an asset.
  • You must be currently enrolled in a full-time program. The following students are not eligible: Second Career, Apprenticeship Programs, International students, Algonquin College employees paying a reduced tuition, Collaborative programs with the University of Ottawa or Carleton University and all programs that are not Ministry-approved.
  • You must be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident, or a Protected Person/Convention Refugee within the meaning of subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) prior to the application deadline date.
  • You must demonstrate a financial need by successfully applying for OSAP or out-of-province financial aid funding.
