Under the leadership of the Chief Investment Officer, Total Portfolio Management (TPM) group plays a critical role in helping OMERS optimize the balance sheet over the medium term using a total portfolio approach. We lead the development of CIO strategies and medium-term asset allocation recommendations (building on the OMERS Strategy and long-term asset mix), we manage OMERS liquidity and funding, we trade in public markets, and we lead the development of sophisticated analytic capabilities including AI. The primary focus of the Student Analyst is to support the portfolio management functions in the Liquidity Management team, with frequent interactions with the Trading team. Additional responsibilities include the build-out of analytical tools, timely monitoring and cleaning data for execution, detailed analysis for reporting, and supporting the broader TPM mandate. This role has the unique opportunity to gain knowledge into the total portfolio approach, with lens into both public and private asset management. The right person for this role is a strong team player, demonstrates intellectual curiosity, brings outstanding communication skills and has a keen interest in financial markets.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the portfolio management of our funding portfolios, which also cover leverage and financing decisions
  • Liaise with Traders on transactions and assisting with trade capture into order management system
  • Providing portfolio analysis and research to identify opportunities to enhance the portfolio
  • Conducting scenario analysis to support overall portfolio construction and investment strategies
  • Enhancing and supporting automation, data visualization, and analytics to improve the group’s tool set and reporting
  • Providing support for the oversight and optimization of total plan leverage & liquidty which includes building and maintaining relationships internally as well as with banks, rating agencies and industry professionals
  • Synthesizing analysis and views into clear, concise messages that can be shared with stakeholders throughout OMERS
  • Bringing new perspectives and distilling insights when analyzing our portfolio and strategies
  • Collaborating, sharing information and insights across investment teams to deliver the best outcomes for the pension plan
  • Helping to communicate strategic investment direction of the Total Plan
Requirements
  • University degree in business, economics, quantitative or related discipline
  • Keen interest in financial markets, portfolio construction, currency, thematic research and macro-economics
  • Industry experience covering portfolio management/capital markets/private markets/strategy preferably at a financial institution, pension fund, insurance company, asset management firm/management consulting firm
  • Exceptional ability to communicate potentially complex ideas and results simply and effectively, to a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Intellectual curiosity, an eagerness to learn, and you are thoughtful, diligent and proactive in gathering information
  • Ability to work with large amounts of data
  • A high attention to detail that complements your ability to see the big picture
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and to deliver cross departmental projects/solutions
  • Action-oriented and proactive with a high degree of initiative
  • Effective team player with a collaborative attitude
  • Ability to multitask and manage a steady stream of priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with CRD, Bloomberg, PowerBI preferred but not required

This posting is for an existing vacancy.

The expected salary range for this position is $66,300.00 - $87,750.00 per year, prorated based on the term of the contract.

You may also be eligible to receive an annual Incentive Award pursuant to our Short-term Incentive plan and our Long-Term Incentive plan (if applicable), and to participate in our group benefits and retirement plans – details on these elements of compensation are included within OMERS & Oxford offer letters.
