Job description

GFT is seeking a Senior Inspector- Structures to join our Construction and Building Group in Guelph, ON. This role follows an on-site work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto, ON office.

What you'll be challenged to do:

As a Senior Inspector- Structures, you will manage transportation construction projects across Toronto, ON. This role involves complex problem solving, process improvements, and leading small projects to ensure successful delivery. You will collaborate with peers, senior staff, and stakeholders to address challenges, foster professional growth, and prepare for leadership roles.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing a safety-first culture on all projects.
  • Inspecting work materials and methods to meet contract requirements safely and with quality.
  • Maintaining daily inspection diaries documenting activities and progress.
  • Issuing deficiency reports and tracking corrective actions.
  • Monitoring safety, security, and operational compliance.
  • Assisting in resolving construction issues and ensuring contract adherence.
  • Tracking change notices and completing as-constructed drawings.
  • Supporting project closeout, including certifications and as-builts.
  • Verifying compliance through inspections.
  • Reviewing contractor work quality and reporting findings.
  • Mentoring junior staff.

What you will bring:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in bridge and culvert inspection.
  • Knowledge of OPSD / OPSS standards and construction staging.
  • Experience with MTO projects is a strong asset.
  • RCSI or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Experience preparing inspection reports and certificates.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience on construction sites, especially transit, municipal infrastructure, deep foundations, waterways, bridges, and soil management.
  • Experience resolving claims and understanding safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and travel as needed.
