GFT is seeking a Senior Inspector - Structures to join our Construction and Building Group in the Guelph, ON area. This role follows an on-site work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto, ON office.

What you'll be challenged to do :

As a Senior Inspector - Structures, you will play a pivotal role in managing transportation construction projects across Toronto, ON. This is an exciting opportunity for career expansion, as you will engage in complex problem solving, enhance processes, and lead small projects to ensure successful project delivery. You will collaborate with peers, senior staff, and stakeholders to address challenges, contribute to your professional growth, and prepare for leadership roles.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Establishing a safety-first culture for all construction projects.
  • Inspecting work materials and methods to ensure contract requirements are met safely and with quality.
  • Maintaining a daily inspection diary documenting construction activity, environmental events, and progress.
  • Issuing contract deficiency reports and following up on corrective actions.
  • Observing and reporting on infractions of safety, security, and operational procedures.
  • Assisting in resolving construction-related issues and ensuring contract compliance.
  • Tracking change notices for the completion of as-constructed drawings.
  • Assisting in the project closeout phase, including certificates of substantial completion and as-builts.
  • Coordinating and carrying out inspections to verify compliance with contract documents.
  • Reviewing the quality of contractor work and reporting to clients.
  • Ensuring contract compliance with technical plans and specifications.
  • Training and mentoring junior staff.

Education and experience :

Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in bridge and culvert inspection.

Familiarity with OPSD / OPSS standards and construction staging.

MTO project experience is a strong asset.

Preferred certifications : RCSI or equivalent.

Experience in preparing field documentation, inspection reports, and payment certificates.

Strong communication, documentation, and coordination skills.

Additional qualifications we value :

  • Supervisory experience on construction sites, especially in transit, commercial, municipal infrastructure, deep foundations, waterways, bridges (MTO roads/highways), and excess soil management.
  • Experience resolving claims and a solid understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws at federal, provincial, and local levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently during inspections.
  • Willingness to travel to construction sites and work outside regular hours as needed.
