Job summary

SBM in London, Ontario is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to support our civil and structural design teams. The 16‑month internship runs May 2027–August 2028, with a $25.00 per hour salary.

The role involves assisting with subdivisions, site developments and municipal projects, and coordinating with multi‑discipline teams. You will work under supervision, preparing design documents, conducting site investigations when required, and supporting milestones and deliverables throughout the project

Qualifications

• Two years toward Bachelor's in Civil Engineering and enrolled to complete the Degree.
• Familiarity with provincial/civic guidelines and the Ontario Building Code is an asset.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and AutoCAD suites.
• Strong written and verbal communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist progression of civil engineering projects including subdivisions, site developments and municipal projects.
• Prepare civil design documents ensuring accuracy and conformance to design requirements.
• Collaborate with team members to meet milestones and deliverables.
• Accept guidance from designers, technologists, and senior staff.
• Assist with tender/contract documents and site investigations as needed.
• Support project teams from preliminary stages through completion.
• Coordinate civil aspects with other discipline designs and drawings.

Civil Engineering Intern

Location:London Office
Position Type: 16-month Internship
Term: May 2027 to August 2028
Salary Range: $25.00 per hour

SBM is currently seeking a structural design intern to work with our engineering staff in the commercial and residential building design divisions of our London office for 16 months. The Civil Intern will be responsible for assisting with the progression of a wide variety of civil engineering projects including subdivisions, site developments, and municipal projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Become familiar with design guidelines, standards, and regulations associated with civilengineering
• Preparation of civil engineering design and documents ensuring accuracy, adequacy, and conformance to the designrequirements
• Work collaboratively with team members on projects to support project milestones and deliverables
• Accept technical guidance from designers, technologists, and seniorstaff
• When required, preparation/review of tender/contractdocuments
• When required, complete site investigations, general reviews of construction, and preparation of field review reports
• Workwithintheprojectteamenvironmentfrompreliminarystagesofthedesignthroughtocompletion
• Coordinate Civil aspects of projects with other discipline designs anddrawings

Qualifications:

• Completed a minimum of two years towards Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited Canadian University, or equivalent, and enrolled to complete theDegree
• ExperiencewithProvincialandlocalMunicipalitydesignguidelines,theOntarioBuildingCode,andother applicable Canadian Engineering standards would be considered anasset

Compensation:

This is a full-time temporary position consisting of a 16-month placement with a competitive salary. SBM offers a positive working environment and a good relationship with our employees which translates directly to better customer service and a superior finished product for our clients. The successful candidate will typically work 8am-5pm Monday-Thursday and 8am-2:30pm on Fridays.
