To meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking a Structural Engineer to join our teams located any one of our Canadian offices with preference for Calgary, AB.

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented Structural Engineer to join WSP's dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in structural engineering and structural dynamic principles, proficient in FEA, analytical, detailed-oriented, critical thinker, and a problem solver. They will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks on a range of challenging and rewarding projects.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Establish design criteria, prepare engineering specifications, design calculations, material take-offs (MTO) in accordance with project requirements.
  • Support the planning, scheduling, cost control activities in the design as related to the Project Plan.
  • Propose solutions for improving or optimizing processes, programs, and procedures. Assist in resolving complex problems requiring a comprehensive and detailed analysis and multi-disciplinary understanding.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer by providing functional guidance, coaching, and peer review to the team's less experienced professionals or to technicians.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of large and complex projects requiring innovative solutions.
  • Conduct on-site inspections as required.
  • Detailed civil and structural designs, which include concrete foundations, piling, steel structures, etc.
  • Prepare documentation for engineering hours budgets, schedules, work plans, tender documents, technical reports, project calculations, etc.
  • Assign, give instructions, and provide directions to technical support staff.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and team members.
  • Ensure the Quality Assurance, consistency, and integrity of the electronic handover of deliverables.
  • Be responsible for reviewing and stamping drawings (as required); using experience in interpreting design codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Check work of and assist in the training of less experienced engineering personnel.
  • Communicate with internal peers and project team and may be required to answer questions regarding deliverables.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • A university degree in Structural Engineering (MSc or PhD would be an asset).
  • Registered as a P.Eng or PE in a Provincial Engineering Association in Canada or US.
  • 5+ years and over experience in the engineering of civil structural designs in the energy industry.
  • Ideally experience with power plants, dynamic foundations, and/or rotating equipment.
  • Working knowledge of software like SAP2000, ETABS, S-Frame, STAAD Pro, Dyna6, etc.
  • Experience with Python would be an asset.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant design codes for Concrete and Steel Structures, and also current Industrial standards.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • A team player with strong communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Solid organization and time management skills.

Salary range (in British Columbia): $105,800 to 145,400.

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
