Job summary

Barr Ltd. is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to lead dam safety reviews and hydraulic structures design in Canada. You will perform structural analysis, support multidisciplinary teams, and build strong client relationships across dam and hydropower projects.

The role involves site inspections, potential field assignments, and travel to the U.S. for project work. A P.Eng certification and 5+ years of relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in structural or civil engineering with a structural emphasis.
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineer (P. Eng) certification or ability to obtain within one year.
• Ability to travel to and work in the U.S.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit.
• Experience with structural analysis software (RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, MathCAD).
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Complete dam safety reviews, audits, and inspections.
• Perform structural analysis and design for hydraulic structures.
• Support the Engineering and Design structural group on multidisciplinary teams.
• Provide structural engineering expertise for dam structures, hydropower facilities, flood control structures, and other hydraulic projects.
• Potentially work on wind turbine foundation design, mining, and industrial projects.
• Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing projects.
• Help ensure project milestones are met and provide updates to managers and clients.
• Develop and maintain client relationships with dam, hydropower, and flood control clients.
• Perform site inspections and minor construction observations.
• Occasionally undertake short-term out-of-town field assignments.

Job description

• Perform structural analysis and design for hydraulic structures
• Support the Engineering and Design structural group as part of multidisciplinary project teams
• Provide structural engineering and related technical expertise for dam structures, hydropower facilities, flood control structures, and other hydraulic structures
• Potentially work on wind turbine foundation design, mining projects, and industrial processing facility projects
• Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing projects
• Help ensure project milestones are met
• Provide regular updates to project managers and clients
• Develop and maintain client relationships with dam, hydropower, and flood control clients
• Perform site inspections and minor construction observations
• Work on short-term, out-of-town assignments for fieldwork, client visits, or at another Barr office

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural emphasis, including structural analysis and steel and concrete design
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Professional Engineer (P. Eng) certification
• PE certification or ability to obtain within one year
• Ability to travel to and work in the U.S.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit
• Experience with structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD
• Current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship from Barr Ltd., now or in the future
• Knowledge of Canadian Dam Association (CDA) dam safety guidelines and associated technical bulletins
• Ability to work in an office environment
• Ability to work near water, operate boats, and lift up to 50 pounds for fieldwork
• Ability to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation
