Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced electrical engineer to lead multidisciplinary teams in designing power and control systems for mining, power plants, and processing facilities. You will manage projects, develop specifications, and prepare cost estimates, while mentoring junior staff and ensuring client satisfaction across disciplines.

The role requires a PE license, 10+ years of experience in industrial environments, and readiness for fieldwork in Canada.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • 10+ years of related design experience on relevant projects.
  • Experience in mining, power plants, or chemical production facilities.
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng.) license in at least one jurisdiction.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Support the electrical group as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Integrate process, mechanical, and control requirements into electrical systems.
  • Manage projects and lead planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Prepare plans and specifications, write reports, and develop cost estimations.
  • Design power and controls for industrial processing facilities, power plants, mining, and municipal facilities.
  • Develop proposals with work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budgets.
  • Ensure milestones are met and provide updates to team members and clients.
  • Coach and mentor less-experienced staff and support team development.
  • Provide technical leadership and manage teams to meet client needs.
  • Build and sustain client and internal relationships.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to align approaches with client goals.
  • Conduct business development activities.
  • Perform up to 10-15 percent domestic fieldwork and occasional short-term assignments.

Job description

  • Manage projects and lead planning, coordination, and execution
  • Prepare plans and specifications, write reports, and develop cost estimations
  • Design power and controls for industrial processing facilities, power plants, mining facilities, and municipal water and wastewater facilities
  • Develop proposals, including work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budgets
  • Ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to team members and clients
  • Coach and mentor less-experienced staff and support team-member development
  • Provide technical leadership and manage teams to meet client needs
  • Build and sustain relationships with clients and internal teams
  • Collaborate across disciplines to align technical approaches with client goals
  • Conduct business development activities
  • Perform up to 10-15 percent domestic fieldwork and occasional short-term out-of-town assignments
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • At least 10 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the role
  • Experience in an industrial production environment such as mining and/or minerals processing, power plants, petroleum refining, or chemical production facilities
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to project assignments
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng.) license in at least one U.S. or Canadian jurisdiction
  • Microsoft Office
  • Current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Ltd., now or in the future
  • Ability to work in locations featuring rough terrain typical of construction sites
  • Ability to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation
