Job summary

KGS Group is a multidisciplinary engineering firm with offices across Canada and the U.S. We seek a Structural Engineer in Training to join our Regina or Saskatoon team.

You will perform structural calculations, analysis, and design of steel and concrete structures under supervision. Ideal candidates hold a Civil Engineering degree with a structural emphasis, are registered as Engineers-in-Training with APEGS, and are eager to develop in design, field inspections, and project management while

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in structural engineering is required.
  • Registration as an Engineer-in-Training with APEGS.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare drawings and specifications, technical memorandums and reports, and feasibility studies.
  • Create hand-sketch drawings and communicate with lead drafters.
  • Produce legible, organized calculations showing adequacy of design.
  • Travel to work sites to perform observations, project documentation and field support as needed.
  • All duties performed will be done under direct supervision by a Senior Structural Engineer.
  • Willing to continually improve technical skills through self-study and other educational means.

The Role

We are looking for a Structural Engineer in Training to join our Structural team in our Regina or Saskatoon office. In this role you will Perform structural engineering calculations, analysis and design of steel and concrete structures, for both new and existing, as well as general structural engineering assignments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare drawings and specifications, technical memorandums and reports, and feasibility studies
  • Create hand-sketch drawings and communicating with lead drafters
  • Produce legible, organized calculations showing adequacy of design
  • Travel to work sites to perform observations, project documentation and field support as needed
  • All duties performed will be done under direct supervision by a Senior Structural Engineer
  • Willing to continually improve technical skills through self-study and other educational means (classes, seminars, etc.) will be highly encouraged and supported
About You
  • Bachelor "s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in structural engineering is required
  • Master’s degree in civil engineering with emphasis in structural engineering would be considered an asset
  • Registration as an Engineer-in-Training with APEGS
  • Course work in structural design of concrete, steel, masonry, wood and soil mechanics
  • Basic knowledge and understanding the engineering principles with the ability to use the standards and codes applicable to structural engineering discipline
  • Interest in performing all aspects of structural engineering including technical calculations, performing field inspections, technical writing, and project management is a plus
  • Understanding of advanced structural modeling and analysis software (RISA, SAP2000, ANSYS or similar Finite Element Software) and CAD software is desirable
  • Working knowledge of MS office suite, high level Word and Excel
  • Ability to work well with a multi-disciplined design team
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills with interest in improving client interaction and relationship building activities
  • Be willing to travel, as needed
